Fixing agents are important auxiliaries in the printing and dyeing industry. They are used to improve the color fastness of dyes on fabrics during wet treatment. On fabrics, they can form insoluble colored substances with the dye, thus improving the color fastness to washing and perspiration, and sometimes even improving its light fastness.

Cationic surfactant quaternary ammonium salt fixing agents work by combining cationic quaternary ammonium salts with the sulfonic acid anions on the dye after dyeing with water-soluble anionic dyes. This electrostatic attraction between positive and negative charges forms a water-insoluble lake, thereby achieving color fastness and improving color fastness, especially wash fastness.
