Smoothing agents impart an ultra-soft, smooth, full, supple, and even hand feel to fabrics. They increase fabric elasticity and wrinkle recovery after washing, thus improving overall resilience. Smoothing agents significantly improve fabric sewingability due to their excellent lubrication properties (for sewing threads or fibers). Furthermore, they substantially enhance wrinkle resistance.

Smoothing agents are water-resistant and dry-cleanable, providing a durable, wash-resistant finish. They exhibit excellent dilution and shear stability, specifically high stability, resistance to hard water and electrolytes, and virtually eliminate roller sticking. Smoothing agents have minimal impact on fabric color, exhibiting low yellowing properties and maintaining vibrant fabric colors.

Smoothing agents are suitable for both padding and immersion methods. For immersion methods, the typical dosage is 1–4% (o.w.f.), while for padding methods, the typical dosage is 10–30 g/L. It can be used in the same bath as most organic softeners and other textile auxiliaries, and can usually be used with cationic and nonionic substances. However, it should be noted that it is generally not recommended to use it in the same bath as alkaline solutions and anionic auxiliaries. It is recommended to conduct a small-scale test before using it in the same bath.
